This Yuma breakdown on $TAO's Root Reborn is exactly the kind of debate Bittensor needs. Professional. Detailed. Constructive. Not emotional. Root Reborn has a powerful idea behind it: Turn root from a passive sell-pressure mechanism into a reinvestment engine for the subnet economy. That is the great idea side. Less forced selling. More subnet support. Validators become capital allocators. Root stake becomes more connected to the growth of dTAO. But Yuma’s point is important: A powerful mechanism can still create powerful risks. Moral hazard. Validator self-dealing. Off-chain incentives. Regulatory questions. Illiquid baskets. Redemption cliffs. Slippage. Custody risk. Complexity for root stakers who thought they were holding simple $TAO exposure. This is not FUD. That is how serious systems get stress-tested. The biggest takeaway for me: Bittensor is no longer just debating emissions. It is debating market structure. Who allocates capital? Who carries risk? Who gets transparency? Who controls flow? Who protects the passive stakers? How do we scale without adding hidden vulnerability? These are not small questions to be taken lightly. Perhaps some time is needed to absorb it all and plan accordingly. They are the questions every real financial and intelligence network eventually has to answer for. I still think Root Reborn is one of the most interesting economic ideas proposed for $TAO. But ideas this important need open review, clear testing, and honest pushback and answers before they become reality. That is how the network gets stronger. Not by avoiding disagreement. But encouraging them. By making the disagreement public, intelligent, and useful to everyone regardless of their level of knowledge. In the end, hopefully, we can find a path everyone is content with. $TAO

Yuma opinion about the new $TAO Root Reborn.

This echoes my sentiment on pace of change and predictability for institutional investors. I understand and appreciate the notion of making big changes now before takeoff, but it creates uncertainty while introducing increased complexity that may have unforeseen ripple effects. In a way that speaks to the level of maturity of the ecosystem - yay! My expressed concern at @proofoftalk to @const_reborn was that root yield disappearing entirely makes the entry point of $TAO less attractive while forcing direct investments into subnets whereas many investors aren’t ready for that yet. The solution proposed is a good attempt to get the best of both worlds, but it turns an index-like token more into a token with concentrated subnet bets. Personally I like the different stategies offered by the likes of @mentatminds and can see demand for structured products along the same lines in time when TAO is at 10x market cap, but making it the default now for root staking muddies the water a bit. What is the solution? Perhaps equal buys across all subnets preserves the subnet index narrative. Perhaps not touching anything is best. Generally I’d favor simplicity/reducing complexity. Either way I agree that wider community input as proposed by @YumaGroup is healthier, even if it feels slower. Happy midsummer 🕺
