According to The Energy Mag, Bitcoin mining company Hut 8 has agreed to pay $2.35 million to settle a proposed securities class action brought by investors. Investors allege that Hut 8 exaggerated transaction earnings during its 2023 all‑stock merger with U.S. Bitcoin Corp. and failed to fully disclose power and network connectivity issues at the latter’s Texas King Mountain mine. Paying 11.5% for $STRC may sound high, but it is actually not as expensive as it sounds.

That’s because $STRC is a *perpetual* preferred stock, meaning the principal never has to be repaid.

Here’s how it works:

Strategy issues new $STRC shares yielding 11.5% and uses the proceeds to buy Bitcoin.

Strategy must pay the $STRC dividend indefinitely, but also gets to hold the BTC, growing at over 30%, indefinitely.

The 11.5% dividend liability remains flat, while the BTC acquired continues to appreciate over time.

In the example below:

The financing cost in year 0 is 11.5% ($11.5K÷$100K).

However, by year 5 the financing cost drops to just 3.1% ($11.5K÷$371K), and keeps decreasing from there.
